Meet the Craftsman
Before setting off, step inside the workshop, the world of Henk Wildeboer, master craftsman and guardian of Giethoorn’s boating heritage. With steady hands and quiet devotion, he shapes each “whispering” punter into an elegant, sturdy vessel that seems born to glide silently over the water. Outside, Yvonne Wildeboer welcomes the guests with the same care, ensuring everyone feels confident and at ease before setting off on their journey.
A Living Tradition
The traditional punters were once the workhorses of the region. Nearly all transport here took place over water, from livestock to weddings and even funeral processions. In those days, Giethoorn had some twenty boatyards. Today, only two remain, and Punterwerf Wildeboer is one of them.
That is precisely what makes a trip in an authentic punter such a unique experience: a boat that is both elegant and sturdy, reliable and easy to handle, even for beginners. You sit safely and comfortably, yet close to the water.
One with Nature
Your route leads through Old Giethoorn and directly into the stunning Weerribben-Wieden National Park. Among the reeds, and in or on the water, there is so much to discover. Water lilies and other aquatic plants abound, but look out for grass snakes sunning on the banks, meadow birds nesting overhead, and dragonflies keeping pace beside your boat.
